Chemist, Distillation

We Offer…

An exciting role as a Distillation Chemist, based in Danbury, Connecticut.

  • Second Shift Hours: Monday – Friday, 2:30pm – 11:00pm.
  • Third Shift Hours: Sunday – Thursday, 10:30pm – 7:00am.

This function provides purification of organic chemicals using distillation techniques and related support systems. This involves a range of activities including:

  • Sets up and adjusts distillation equipment. May operate heating, cooling, vacuum and pressure systems.
  • Uses analytical equipment for assessing quality of distillation cuts and final products. Understands principles of operation of the equipment and, with supervision, interprets results.
  • Transport, weigh, mix and pump chemical materials.
  • Monitoring of process parameters to ensure product quality, yields and lot consistency.
  • Proper care, safety, maintenance and usage of technology, equipment, and/or systems.
  • May serve as a technical resource for Distillation Technician.
  • Maintain all necessary production, safety, inventory, training, and other records and/or logs as required, in written and /or computer format.
  • Complies with all BRI environmental and safety policies and procedures.

You Offer…

  • Knowledge of the principles and techniques of distillation and analytical chemistry.
  • BS in Chemistry or related field and one to five years’ experience in distillation.
  • Ability to use interchangeably metric and U.S. standards of weights and measures and its application in determining molar quantity
  • Skill in the operation of distillation and support equipment.
  • Knowledge of piping and valve operations to control processes.
  • Ability to conduct gas chromatographic analyses and interprets results.
  • Evaluate materials by odor.

Production Technician, Distillation

An exciting role as a Production Technician in our Distillation Department based in Danbury, Connecticut.

  • First Shift Hours: Monday – Friday, 6:30am – 3:00pm.
  • Second Shift Hours: Monday – Friday, 2:30pm – 11:00pm.
  • Third Shift Hours: Sunday – Thursday, 10:30pm – 7:00am.

This function conducts processing operations related to purification of organic chemicals using distillation techniques and related support systems. This involves a range of activities including:

You Offer…

  • Sets up and adjusts distillation equipment. May operate heating, cooling, vacuum and pressure systems.
  • Cleans, maintains and sets up distillation stills and equipment for product processing. 
  • Transports, weighs, pours, blends, mixes, pumps and packs chemical materials with attention to regulatory requirements and safety regulations. Follows adulteration control standards.
  • Operates dolly, pallet jack, and/or forklift in loading and unloading supplies and equipment.
  • Monitors of process parameters to ensure product quality, yields and lot consistency.
  • Maintains department database, prepares routine reports, and files shipping/receiving records.
  • Ensures proper care, safety, maintenance and usage of technology, equipment, and/or systems.
  • Maintains all necessary production, safety, inventory, training and other records and/or logs as required, in written and /or computer format.
  • May lock warehouse and set alarms.
  • May use analytical equipment for assessing quality of distillation cuts and final products.
  • Complies with all BRI environmental and safety policies and procedures.

You offer…

  • High school diploma or GED required. Associates Degree in Chemistry or related field is preferred.
  • Knowledge of light equipment operation and/or maintenance.

Entomological Project Manager

We Offer…

An exciting role as Entomological Project Manager based in our Danbury, Connecticut Production Facility.

This function involves providing data analysis, organization and interaction with Universities and testing labs for a pest control research program that includes repellent and attractant testing and plant disease control technologies, active ingredients, delivery systems, and application innovations.  Work efficiently, effectively and collaboratively on project teams with internal and external experts including entomologists, chemists, formulation chemists, regulatory and environmental specialists, etc.  

This position covers a range of activities including: 

  • Organize, interpret, critically evaluate, and summarize a large volume of data from various laboratories.
  • Direct, coordinate, organize, and implement product development activities for insect control including protocol design/review for new experiments.
  • Proficiency in experimental design, development and data analysis.
  • Interface with industry, university and experiment station personnel who are involved with or can contribute to product development investigations.
  • Compose research reports that can be used for presentations, publications, and to commercialize products or substantiate product claims.
  • Assist in the assessment, improvement, and testing of insect lure and trap testing and design.
  • Develop practical innovative technologies in the area of pest control.
  • Help facilitate, prepare, and defend grants and patents related to insect control.
  • Manage multiple projects and priority deadlines.
  • Places high value on time effectiveness for project completion.

Ph.D. Research & Development Chemist

We Offer…

An exciting role as Ph.D. Research Chemist in our R&D Lab located in Danbury, Connecticut – Production Facility. In this role you will develop, document, communicate and implement new or improved chemical processes for production at BRI using standard laboratory equipment, a reaction calorimeter, as well as standard analytical equipment such as a GC, DSC, and MS. This position covers a range of activities including: 

  • Researches and conducts experiments to improve the cost, safety and throughput of existing syntheses.
  • Proposes and conducts efficient and practical syntheses of new products.
  • Perform and summarize literature searches of chemical transformations pertaining to business interests.
  • Understand and apply concepts of Design of Experiments (DoE) methodology to identify critical process parameters and define permissible ranges.
  • Perform calorimetry studies and interpret the data in order to develop safe operating instructions.
  • Define specification limits of raw materials, intermediates, and final products.
  • Impurity identification using mass spectrometry.
  • Prepare and purify compounds as needed for analytical method development and reference standards.
  • Fully understand physical and chemical changes resulting from process conditions to define control needs to Production.
  • Execute responsibilities with a high degree of urgency and autonomy requiring minimal oversight by immediate manager.
  • Provide effective communication by summarizing findings through technical reports and presentations.
  • Develop, write, and edit SOPs as needed, ensuring valid and accurate information.
  • Work with Production team to identify continuous improvement opportunities around safety, quality, yield, and manufacturing cost that can be proven in lab, optimized, and implemented in Production.
  • Provide production support as needed to resolve process challenges.
  • Promote a safe work environment. For BRI chemistries, identify hazards and quantify potential impact of process deviations. Work with Production and Engineering departments to mitigate hazards as needed.
  • Report results, draw conclusions and make data-based recommendations to management and Production.
  • Other responsibilities or projects as assigned by manager.

 You Offer…

  • PhD degree from an accredited college or university.
