First, Second or Third Shift Distillation Chemist I

We Offer…

An exciting role as either a First, Second or Third Shift Distillation Chemist I, based in Danbury, Connecticut. This function provides purification of organic chemicals using distillation techniques and related support systems. This involves a range of activities including: 

  • Sets up and adjustment of distillation Equipment. May operate heating, cooling, vacuum and pressure systems.
  • Uses analytical equipment for assessing quality of distillation cuts and final products. Understands principles of operation of the equipment and, with supervision, interprets results.
  • Transport, weigh, mix and pump chemical materials.
  • Monitoring of process parameters to ensure product quality, yields and lot consistency.
  • Proper care, safety, maintenance and usage of technology, equipment, and/or systems.
  • May serve as a technical resource for Distillation Technician. 
  • Maintain all necessary production, safety, inventory, training, and other records and/or logs as required, in written and/or computer format.
  • Complies with all BRI environmental and safety policies and procedures.

You Offer…

  • Knowledge of the principles and techniques of distillation and analytical chemistry.
  • BS in Chemistry or related field and one to five years’ experience in distillation.
  • Ability to use interchangeably metric and U.S. standards of weights and measures and its application in determining molar quantity
  • Skill in the operation of distillation and support equipment.
  • Knowledge of piping and valve operations to control processes.
  • Ability to conduct gas chromatographic analyses and interprets results.
  • Evaluate materials by odor.

Senior Analytical Chemist           

We Offer…

An exciting role as a Senior Analytical Chemist in our QC Lab based in Danbury, Connecticut. This job function involves conducting routine and non-routine analysis of raw materials, in-process formulations and finished formulations. The function compiles and reviews data for documentation of test procedures and for compliance. Collaboration with various departments on documentation, testing and implementation of final product availability is also key. This position covers a range of activities including: 

  • Operates and maintains sophisticated equipment to analyze data, and report results.
  • Performs highly complex laboratory data acquisition, manipulation and analysis.
  • Compiles data and computes results, ensuring quality control and compliance with protocol.
  • Under advisement of QC Manager, performs quality dispositions and quality status updates that are in line with the company’s operating procedures as it relates to supplier control/food safety requirements.
  • Supplies technical information and consults with co-workers regarding results of statistical and observational data.
  • Acts as liaison with vendors regarding technology, equipment, techniques, and applications.
  • Investigates customer inquiries and communicates corrective/preventive actions to customers.
  • Complies with all BRI environmental, and safety policies and procedures.
  • Practices safety and environmental control methods.
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

You Offer…

  • Knowledge and ability of GC FID and GC/MS analysis, method development and interpretation, titrations, specific gravity, determination of refractive index, and sensory evaluation of raw materials and final products.
  • Bachelor’s level degree in chemistry or a related field, and proven work experience in a chemical laboratory or industry related field equivalent to 15 years or more. Alternatively, graduation from a Masters program in a Chemistry related field and 10 years or more of relevant experience.
  • Excellent math and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to draw conclusions and make recommendations based on data and findings.
  • Experience performing data entry, compiling information, preparing reports and other statistical information.
  • Knowledge of current technological developments and trends in area of expertise.

Ph.D. Research & Development Chemist

We Offer…

An exciting role as Ph.D. Research Chemist in our R&D Lab located in Danbury, Connecticut – Production Facility. In this role you will develop, document, communicate and implement new or improved chemical processes for production at BRI using standard laboratory equipment, a reaction calorimeter, as well as standard analytical equipment such as a GC, DSC, and MS. This position covers a range of activities including: 

  • Researches and conducts experiments to improve the cost, safety and throughput of existing syntheses.
  • Proposes and conducts efficient and practical syntheses of new products.
  • Perform and summarize literature searches of chemical transformations pertaining to business interests.
  • Understand and apply concepts of Design of Experiments (DoE) methodology to identify critical process parameters and define permissible ranges.
  • Perform calorimetry studies and interpret the data in order to develop safe operating instructions.
  • Define specification limits of raw materials, intermediates, and final products.
  • Impurity identification using mass spectrometry.
  • Prepare and purify compounds as needed for analytical method development and reference standards.
  • Fully understand physical and chemical changes resulting from process conditions to define control needs to Production.
  • Execute responsibilities with a high degree of urgency and autonomy requiring minimal oversight by immediate manager.
  • Provide effective communication by summarizing findings through technical reports and presentations.
  • Develop, write, and edit SOPs as needed, ensuring valid and accurate information.
  • Work with Production team to identify continuous improvement opportunities around safety, quality, yield, and manufacturing cost that can be proven in lab, optimized, and implemented in Production.
  • Provide production support as needed to resolve process challenges.
  • Promote a safe work environment. For BRI chemistries, identify hazards and quantify potential impact of process deviations. Work with Production and Engineering departments to mitigate hazards as needed.
  • Report results, draw conclusions and make data-based recommendations to management and Production.
  • Other responsibilities or projects as assigned by manager.

An exciting role as Registrations Coordinator, based in Danbury, Connecticut. This function assists in the meeting of global product registration goals and maintaining company compliance with domestic and international pesticide product regulations, which involves a range of activities including: 

  • Identify, compile, and submit the data and information needed to support regulatory approvals for assigned products domestically and internationally.
  • Complete draft regulatory documents based on templates and/or supervisor instructions to support US state, federal, and international pesticide registrations and associated activities.
  • Review and edit scientific studies for accuracy and adherence to document formatting requirements and regulatory guidelines.
  • Request information from and follow-up with appropriate departments and consultants to complete dossiers by deadlines.
  • Maintain well organized and complete files and records supporting each assigned project.
  • Coordinate sample shipments for insect research projects.

 You Offer…

  • Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university, preferably in the field of Chemistry, Biology or Entomology.
  • Two to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred. Prior regulatory or related experience is an advantage.
  • Well-organized and detail oriented, with strong reading, writing and communication skills.
  • Willing to expand regulatory knowledge – new product categories and/or geographies.
  • Interpret, explain and apply applicable laws, codes and regulations.
