Maintenance Shop and Parts Coordinator 

We Offer…

An exciting role as a Maintenance Shop and Parts Coordinator in our Production Facility based in Danbury, Connecticut.

This function will be responsible for supporting the Maintenance Department by maintaining a fully stocked, organized and efficient maintenance shop. This includes ensuring all parts, equipment and tools are stocked, in working order and organized for each shift. This function will also provide hand-on support for the maintenance team as needed.

  • Organize maintenance shop and ensure inventory is up to date in the computer system

Ph.D. Research & Development Chemist

We Offer…

An exciting role as Ph.D. Research Chemist in our R&D Lab located in Danbury, Connecticut – Production Facility. In this role you will develop, document, communicate and implement new or improved chemical processes for production at BRI using standard laboratory equipment, a reaction calorimeter, as well as standard analytical equipment such as a GC, DSC, and MS. This position covers a range of activities including: 

  • Researches and conducts experiments to improve the cost, safety and throughput of existing syntheses.
  • Proposes and conducts efficient and practical syntheses of new products.
  • Perform and summarize literature searches of chemical transformations pertaining to business interests.
  • Understand and apply concepts of Design of Experiments (DoE) methodology to identify critical process parameters and define permissible ranges.
  • Perform calorimetry studies and interpret the data in order to develop safe operating instructions.
  • Define specification limits of raw materials, intermediates, and final products.
  • Impurity identification using mass spectrometry.
  • Prepare and purify compounds as needed for analytical method development and reference standards.
  • Fully understand physical and chemical changes resulting from process conditions to define control needs to Production.
  • Execute responsibilities with a high degree of urgency and autonomy requiring minimal oversight by immediate manager.
  • Provide effective communication by summarizing findings through technical reports and presentations.
  • Develop, write, and edit SOPs as needed, ensuring valid and accurate information.
  • Work with Production team to identify continuous improvement opportunities around safety, quality, yield, and manufacturing cost that can be proven in lab, optimized, and implemented in Production.
  • Provide production support as needed to resolve process challenges.
  • Promote a safe work environment. For BRI chemistries, identify hazards and quantify potential impact of process deviations. Work with Production and Engineering departments to mitigate hazards as needed.
  • Report results, draw conclusions and make data-based recommendations to management and Production.
  • Other responsibilities or projects as assigned by manager.

In this role you will design and conduct complex organic syntheses research, which requires in-depth knowledge of chemical applications. Instrumentation, Controls and Electrical Engineer

We Offer…

An exciting role as an Instrumentation, Controls and Electrical Engineer in our Production Plant based in Danbury, Connecticut.

This function, under general supervision, oversees the electrical and control systems for production. This role documents and maintains existing systems while participating in the design and hazard analyses for new systems.  This position will interface with all functions as needed and provide input into all decisions requiring Process Instrumentation, Controls or Electrical Engineering expertise – recommending, implementing, training and validating improvements with the engineering, maintenance and operations staff.

This involves a range of activities including:

  • Design, develop and maintain electrical and control systems and procedures necessary to meet specific project requirements.
  • Based on input from operations, EHS, maintenance, develop scope, cost and execution schedule for instrumentation and control upgrade projects. 
  • Identify commercially available instrumentation to meet operational, EHS needs. Develop specifications, solicit competitive bids, perform bid comparison and recommend final selection.
  • Lead projects through funding, detailed design, commissioning, training and project close out.
  • Support operational analysis of data through plantwide data historian including data analysis trending and configuration support with IT.
  • Set up standard test apparatus to conduct functional and operational tests to evaluate performance and reliability.
  • Draw and design plans using computer-assisted engineering and design software.
  • Adjusts, calibrates, aligns, and modifies circuitry, components, equipment, and systems and records effects.
  • Communicate engineering information across teams and departments to facilitate successful completion of large-scale projects.
  • Ensuring projects meet electrical and construction safety regulations.
  • Attending meetings, writing reports and giving presentations to managers.

  • Design and promote a “Safety First” mentality among all employees by providing educational information, accurate and informative data, conducting safety committee meetings, giving timely feedback regarding safety suggestions, and visibly supporting the field and office safety programs.
  • Leads adoption of strategies to efficiently and effectively highlight safety in the course of all business activities.
  • Act as main liaison for all OSHA related compliance and investigatory issues.
  • Advises and actively participates in risk and hazard evaluations of existing processes, procedures, operating areas, equipment and new capital investments.
  • Participate on the Medical and Emergency Response Team.
  • Participate on the Pollution Prevention Team.
  • Support Hazard Communications Program – oversight of Safety Data Sheet management systems including hard copies and loading electronic copies on Company EHS Intranet site.
  • Contribute to and help lead the BRI safety committee.
  • Provides timely resolutions to safety issues by defining the problem, determining root cause, establishing action plans and priorities, and providing technical assistance.
  • Conducts and/or oversees safety training programs for employees at all levels as required and ensures requirements are met.
  • Manage safety concerns.
  • Ensure statutes, regulations, and codes are clearly understood and met.
  • Intervene to stop any acts or processes which are unsafe or do not comply with OHS guidelines and provide preventative measures to ensure unsafe processes are not repeated.

  • Update procedures and policies for new regulations or local ordinances.
  • Responsible for monitoring and reporting safety and accident metrics to senior management and to client and regulatory entities, as required.
  • Responsible for monitoring regulations and directing programs to ensure compliance with Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations for commercial vehicles utilized in company business.
  • Determine, understand, and enforce relevant OSHA policies.
  • Monitor safety certification requirements for specific positions/activities and verify employee compliance.
  • Audit compliance to companywide safety standards and site-specific safety plans.
  • Prepare educational seminars and webinars on a regular basis.
  • Work with HR/operations to set up a new employee on-boarding process for safety.
  • Work with Maintenance and Engineering to oversee workplace repair, installations and any other work that could harm employees’ safety.
  • Organize and maintain all safety and compliance-related forms.
  • Ensure all staff and contract workers have completed necessary training and are equipped for their roles.
  • Work with production, and other areas, keeping on the lookout for any unsafe behavior or breaks in regulations.
  • Assessing risk and possible safety hazards of all aspects of operations.
  • Create analytical reports of safety data.
  • Focusing on prevention by keeping up with equipment maintenance and employee training.
  • Presenting safety principles to staff in meetings or lecture-type training sessions.
  • Participating in continuing education to update knowledge of health and safety protocols and techniques.
  • Sharing information, suggestions, and observations with project leadership to create consistency in safety standards throughout the production team and the entire company.
  • Setting and meeting company health and safety goals.
  • Liaising with law enforcement and other investigators who are present at the time of a serious accident.
  • Reviewing and reporting on the staff’s compliance with health and safety rules and recommending commendations or dismissal based on performance.
  • Willingness and ability to have flexibility in work hours due to 24/7 operation.

You Offer…

  • Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Environmental Health & Safety, or related technical field.
  • 15+ years of experience in an industrial setting with 3+ years of managerial experience in Health and Safety, and proven experience as a safety officer.
  • Must also possess an advanced knowledge of chemistry and chemical reactions, Certified Safety Professional (CSP) preferred.
  • Ability to recognize onsite risk factors and take appropriate action with firmness and tact.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to write safety policies and procedures.

  • A minimum of 5+ years’ experience conducting safety assessments.

The Shipping Associate/Clerk  function performs a variety of receiving and shipping tasks. This involves a range of activities including:

  • Prepares shipments for postal and commercial conveyance.
  • Receives and unloads incoming materials and compares information on packing slip with purchase order, performs sampling and processes return shipments from customers.
  • Pours, blends, packs with attention to regulatory requirements and safety regulations. Follows adulteration control standards.
  • Prepares bills of lading and checks items to be shipped against work orders to ascertain that quantities, destination, and routing are correct.
  • May trace lost shipments and initiates proof of delivery documents.
  • May maintain department database, prepare routine reports, and file shipping/receiving records.
  • May operate dolly, pallet jack, and/or forklift in loading and unloading supplies and equipment. May lock warehouse and set alarms.
